Alaska’s Adventures
As someone who used to think Alaska was too cold to visit, I was wrong. The southern parts of the state’s temperatures are comparable with the northern part of the continental United States. Alaska offers many year-round adventures, and while most people are familiar with Alaskan cruises, I thought I would touch on some adventure activities.
Whale watching – Chartered tours for watching and photographing whales are available in many areas, as Alaska has miles and miles of coasts. Be sure to ask about migration or breeding seasons, as your reservationist may be able to suggest prime dates to visit.
Skiing – Yes, Alaska has skiing, in fact, some of the best resorts in the country are located here. Winters are opportune times for skiing, just like in the States; however, some parts of Alaska are snow-covered well past spring and even into early summer.
Nature photography – With all of the outdoor activities Alaska has to offer, nature photography is another adventure. You can have your own Wilderness Safari by touring Wildlife Refuges either on foot (if permitted) or by chartered helicopter. Alaska has many animals, mountains, wild flowers, sea creatures and other points/articles of photographic interest to explore. In fact, if you travel north (Fairbanks area), in some locations visitors have reported being able to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) most nights of the year.
