How to Modify Your Adventure Vacation for Your Disability/Ability and Still Have a Good Time
Everyone wants to have a great time while on vacation, and people of all abilities should have the opportunity to do that; which is why I am a huge advocate on adventure travel for the disabled. You need not be in a wheelchair to need modifications, as pregnancy, disability, mild or moderate handicaps may need modification.
For hiking, consider asking your guide if there will be a level terrain. Crossing terrain that is more level generally avoids steep mountain sides and embankments which are harder on the joints. Also, consider embarking or a hike that allows rest stops like lodges for lunch breaks or overnight stays to help rest before setting out on the next part of your journey.
If you are going horseback riding, ask the reservations agent if there is a particularly gentle horse you can reserve, and ask if there is anything that can assist your on/off horse mounts/dismounts.
Finally, for biking, ask if there are surrey bicycles available.
Surrey bikes are more comfortable (they seat like a car) and are easier to operate for disabled passengers.
Be sure to tell your reservations agent if there are any conditions you may feel need to be addressed in order to modify your outdoor adventure vacation. No matter what ability or disability a person has, planning and enjoying an outdoor adventure vacation is a realistic achievement for all people.
