Something for the Entire Family: Hiking, Biking and Horseback Riding All on One Trail
Yes, it’s true! Named after the historic locomotive, The Virginia Creeper Trail is 34 miles of trail which runs between Abingdon and
Damascus Virginia. Now, it is notable that most of the trail is held on private lands; however, it is not off-limits to visitors. Those looking to traverse trestles, bridges and creek beds will enjoy the Virginia Creeper Trail.
Just some notes: bicyclists yield to equestrians and vice-versa. You can camp in the US Forest Service designated part of the trial; just make sure it is far away from the trail. Clean up after yourself, don’t bring any of the typical “illegal” items, and make sure out of respect to the riders that you don’t make any loud or sudden noises to startle the horses.
For those that want a scaled-down version of the trail, parking spots are available mid-trail. Be sure to look for evidence of old railroad stations, locomotives, and other railroad-related archives.
